Medicare Part D Creditable or Non- Creditable Coverage Notice
The Medicare Modernization Act requires every employer that offers prescription drug coverage to
notify all "Part D- eligible individuals" to let them know whether coverage under the employer's
health plan is "creditable" or "non- creditable". The notice applies to employers that offer
prescription drug coverage on a group basis to active or retired employees and their dependents
eligible for Medicare Part D. This notice must be provided each year and indicate whether your
group health plan provides creditable or non- creditable coverage. It is recommended that the
notice be sent to all Plan members prior to the start of Medicare's open enrollment period of
November 15th.
Model language for both creditable and non- creditable coverage is available at the
CMS web site. Guidance to determine whether or not the group prescription is
creditable or non- creditable can also be found on this site.
